Handmade Accoutrements

A lifelong artist and graduate of The School of Visual Arts, NYC, Eric Ewing started making historically-inspired folk art bags in 2013 after hunting for the first time in ancestral lands in Virginia with a traditional flintlock blackpowder rifle.

Eric has made over 200 unique bags and other accoutrements that have received awards at Dixon’s Gunmakers Fair and have been featured in the pages of Muzzleloader Magazine and other national publications. His work has appeared on the television show “Outsiders” and the Amazon Prime Video series “Underground Railroad”.

The ability to combine his love for the arts, the outdoors, and Americana themes continues to drive his passion to create unique pieces that express folk-art sensibilities and celebrate the materials and shapes found in the natural world.

All of Eric’s pieces are hand-made using a diverse mix of natural and reclaimed media, including bark-tanned leather, repurposed textile remnants, and antique hardware. All animal hides are ethically sourced from hunters and tanned in small batches; some are procured from smaller, family-owned commercial tanneries. Others are repurposed and/or acquired from private collections found in storage. The metalwork and other embellishments are either reclaimed antiques or newly made by blacksmiths and other talented artists.

Eric Ewing is a member of the Contemporary Longrifle Association and presents at their annual show in Lexington, Kentucky. He enjoys hunting, primitive blackpowder biathlons, and microfarming, as well as practicing Brazilian juijitsu and mixed martial arts.

Eric resides in the Hudson Valley Region of New York with his family.
