The Farrier

In the 18th century, well before the age of the automobile, the horse was the standard means of travel. All travel was by foot, by boat, or by horse. Many folks owned horses, and even those who did not knew something about horses as they came in contact with these animals daily.  Horse culture was a common part of life.

Horses require specific maintenance. This is the job of the farrier.  All aspects of horse care and well-being was the responsibility of these men. A well trusted and capable farrier proved a vital player in the commerce and trade of early America.
