Rose Schmucker is a self-taught artist from Middlebury, IN who has been painting for over 30 years now. Specializing in Still Life, Rose has a knack for capturing the spirit of everyday objects, from flowers to canning jars to bicycles… Rose uses acrylics on canvas to render works that will transport you back to the moments you thought forgotten, and remind you why these moments matter…
It began about 38 years ago, when I was 15 years old. My parents had a buggy manufacturing business where they made new carriages, and on these carriages there was pin striping… I would watch one of my brothers paint the pin striping on the carriages, and my fascination grew. After a while I started doing pin striping as well, and that was where I became hooked on the magic of a brush and some paint!
I’m also a very hands on person, I love to create things. I took some art lessons to get me started, and read a lot of books about art and the artists that create it. (I still do!) For years I simply copied other artists’ work, that was my Art school.
These days I do my own set ups or use copyright free images since I do not use a camera to gather reference material like most artists would. 75% of my work done today is commissions.
I enjoy still life the most as it allows me to shape with paint… sometimes the simplest things can be the most beautiful!
